On August 22-25, 2018, the SIGN9 conference was held at the University of Warsaw, whose local organizer was the Section for Sign Linguistics.
Nearly 200 people, the vast majority of them deaf, from more than 20 countries participated in the conference.
For many years, the SIGN conference has been a field for meeting and exchanging research results and experiences between sign scientists from all over the world. SIGN is the only conference in the world whose working languages are exclusively sign languages, and all on-stage presentations are presented either in International Sign or in the sign language of the host of a given edition. Speeches are exclusively about Deaf people, their culture and language.
