Workshops on PJM and IS will precede the conference. The aim of those workshops is to familiarize attendants with the working languages of the conference to facilitate effective communication. All conference participants are encouraged to take part in these workshops. Both workshops will take place on Wednesday, 22 August before the grand opening of the conference. Participation is free, but registration is required. Places are limited!


Workshop on International Sign

This SIGN9 pre-conference course is aimed at Polish deaf people, and will explain how to use International Sign for presentations. WE welcome also hearing users of PJM and users (both hearing and deaf) of other sign languages.

International Sign is a form of language used at deaf international linguistic, cultural, educational and research events worldwide. This pre-conference course on International Sign will use recent research into this means of communication, to help remove the barriers in delivering your presentation.

Goals:

  • Presenting the different means of communication planned for the course. Provide a summary of studies in the field of communication through International Sign and reflect on the knowledge of recent discussions and experiences.
  • Understanding the structural characteristics of International Sign.
  • Giving the participants the opportunity to learn International Sign.
  • Participating in group communication activities.
  • Understanding International Sign to enable integration with other academic researchers.
  • Exploring International Sign involving the basic vocabulary of participants own research and allowing communication between researchers, teachers and students in academic areas involving sign language.

Workshop on PJM: “Polish Sign Language for foreigners”

Goals:

  • Practicing understanding and producing PJM.
  • Usinh sign language in academic contexts such as sign linguistics, deaf studies, deaf culture and understanding the characteristics of PJM.
  • Enabling SIGN9 foreign participants to understand PJM and converse with Poles in their spare time.
  • Asking and answering questions regarding the presended research.
  • Providing practical sessions on how to introduce your research and yourself (exchanging personal information).
